Gil made a series of claims about his awesomeness as a guide in the car ride from the airport to his house that got us somewhat concerned. We come from a country (NZ) that doesn’t approach things quite like that.
He then, over the following days, proceeded to completely validate everything he had said. I don’t want to give too much away about what it is like to be part of the Gil experience. He and his cousin Celso will take you on an amazing journey. They aren’t just a couple of guides that showed us around Alter do Chao, Santarem, Tapajos and the Amazon river but quickly became great friends and gave us some incredible insight into the area. Part of us doesn’t want to write this review as we get jealous when we see other people on instagram enjoying the fantastic hospitality and sometimes even better sunsets…
We travelled with our 10 years old daughter, loved every minute of it and for ever will treasure these memories. Highlights: stunning nature, obviously, (sloths a favourite sight); Gil's contagious laughter and joy; Celso's delicious food (and that Tucupi!); Nelson's beautiful boat and presence; their local knowledge; always a good time for a Caipirinha!
This bucket list trip annoyingly is not ticked as we will have to go back.
