“Time in Santarem? Spend it with Gil!”
Our cruise ship had less than a full day's stop in Santarem. About
sixteen of us preferred to take an independent tour rather than the
excursions offered by the ship. We were so fortunate to book our time
with Gil Serique. Gil's day tour was informative, relaxing, lots of fun,
and downright amazing. We saw all that we'd hoped for - pink dolphins,
interesting birds, a sloth, meeting of the waters.... We experienced a
walk through the forest and were served local food and drink. The
refreshments were prepared and served by the local people who work with
Gil. Those guests who wanted to, transferred to smaller craft for a
different perspective of the Maica Lake nooks and crannies.
Almost as impressive as the actual tour, was the organization and professionalism of Gil and his staff. They managed to give the guests a great day, despite the varying ages, physical capabilities, and languages of the participants. Originally, I sent an email query to Gil and received an immediate response. He provided reading suggestions and links to various informative sites. I booked by sending another email with the details of the ship's arrival and departure.
Gil's love for his Amazon/Tapajos area is contagious. We finished the day with a new appreciation for the area and its people. Thank you Gil.
