“Wonderful tour of the Amazon flood plains, highlight of the entire cruise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW
We went on a tour with Gil Serique when our cruise ship docked in Santarem. It was a miserable day in the morning with constant rain but that did not slow Gil down. The rain eventually stopped in the afternoon but it really did not detract very much form our expedition. We boarded a river boat and took off down the Amazon and then branched off into smaller creeks in the flood plain. Gil is without a doubt the most enthusiastic person you will ever be around. He promised we would see all sorts of wildlife and we certainly did. Birds, sloths, monkeys, fish, dolphins etc. were everywhere. Gil and his helpers did an excellent job of spotting and identifying the wildlife and moving the boat in for a closer look. Additionally the snacks of local food and drink he kept bringing up were great. I had been on a tour provided by the ship earlier in the trip but it was no comparison to Gil's offering. We spent about 5 to 6 hours on the boat and enjoyed every minute. Gil is such a nice person and extremely knowledgeable of the area and it's history. This tour was without a doubt one of the best things I have ever done. It really gave me a better idea of what the wild Amazon is like. I highly recommend Gil. I felt safe and comfortable at all times and the tour was worth every penny.
