Sungrebe
Hi Gil,
I do lectures on cruise ships and got a photo of a bird out of Manaus that I can't identify. I purchased your wildlife book but the bird doesn't seem to be in the book. It has the head like a bitten but was swimming like a duck. A friend who is an expert birder thought it was a torrent duck. Here is a photo. Do you know what it is?
Thanks for your help. Ray Rychnovsky
It is an ilusive sungrebe!!
cheers mate enjoy the cruise

Interview with Ryan Sandes
Ryan Sandes' next challenge is in the highest and driest desert in the world. H is already in Bolivia for it. I met him during the Jungle Marathon 2009 and had a chat with him yesterday.
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT THE COMPETITION?
The Atacama Desert race is part of the 4 Desert Series which I am hoping to complete at the end of this year.
I have completed the Gobi and Sahara Desert races and this year will be competing in the Atacama Desert race now in March and then the Last Desert in Antarctica in November.
WHEN DId YOU GET TO BOLIVIA?
Two days ago, I am here for ten days to acclimatise to the altitude as the Atacama race is at high altitude.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?
I am staying in the capital city of Bolivia called La Paz. I have been on a few runs around the city and it is really beautifull and has a number of historical buildings. The people here are also very friendly and welcoming.
HOW MANY HOURS ARE you TRAINING A DAY??
I am in my taper period at the moment so only about 2 hours a day. During my peak training I would spend about 4-5hours a day training.
HAVE YOU COMPETED IN THE SAME CONDITIONS BEFORE?
No I have never competed at high altitude but I am looking forward to the challenge.
WHAT ARE YOUr EXPECTATIOnS for the race??
I am feeling confident about the race but anything can happen out there!
HAVE FUN MATE!!!
