American bank may finance the Tapajos Hydroeletric complex

The U.S. government is willing to participate, through its Eximbank financing projects in Brazil in the area of oil, as in the production of pre-salt, and construction of hydropower plants.

One of the projects that could receive funds from the bank is the Tapajos Hydroelectric Complex in Rio Tapajós (PA), which is still under studies. The construction of the complex will have a quite negative impact on the environment and peoples that live along the river. Demonstrations against it should soon knock the banks door.
